I trusted GoodVets with my cats for years, but I will never go back.
My 7 year old, Rainbow, became sick in May. I booked her an appointment with her existing vet, Dr. DeMarco (who, for the record, I still trust greatly), but when we got there Dr. Mervin came in. No explanation and when I asked if Dr. DeMarco could continue Rainbow’s care, was repeatedly told no without explanation.
At first, I was told it was probably nothing and Rainbow may have IBS. Try changing her food. So we did, but when she didn’t get better I returned for test after test after test. Each test was inconclusive and took longer to get results than the first. If they told me it’d be 3 days, I’d call on day 4. Then again days 5, 6, and 7. I was always told “there is another patient here”, meanwhile, I was trying to care for Rainbow, an actively dying patient.
The real kicker was when Dr. Mervin couldn’t get answers on an in-house ultrasound. She told me not to go to a specialist at OPVES because they’d charge twice as much for the same thing. So I chose a second mobile ultrasound at GoodVets. She told me they’d call with results in 3 days. Dr. Mervin didn’t return my calls for a week, and when she did, I was made out to be the one in the wrong, with her becoming very short and still telling me she didn’t know what was wrong.
So I took Rainbow to OPVES where she got a third ultrasound (so much for saving any money, huh). They were able to diagnose her within minutes and gave us the care she needed.
You see, Rainbow was dying of large cell lymphoma. Because of Dr. Mervin and the front staff’s carelessness, I lost precious weeks that could have been spent trying to help Rainbow. Instead, we were forced to choose hospice care at this point because chemo would have been too much on her advanced disease.
8 days later when Rainbow was telling us goodbye, I called GoodVets to help us give her a peaceful end. They told me Dr. DeMarco once again was unavailable. No sorry. No further suggestions. By some miracle I found that a childhood friend was back in town practicing medicine at LS Animal Hospital North whose care was the biggest blessing in this tragedy.
I’ve called and spoken directly with Dr. DeMarco about this. He knows what happened. But it keeps me up at night thinking other people may be trusting a random vet at this clinic with their best friend and getting the same horrible care we did.
I don’t even care that the staff and Dr. Mervin were rude to me for loving my cat. I care that Rainbow deserved so much better and I feel like I failed her by trusting GoodVets.
This is the best clinic I've ever taken my babies to. They give the time and attention warranted. One of my babies is going thru an end of life stage and the staff here is very understanding and patient. They take the time to walk me thru what I can expect and it helps...me as much as my baby. In 50 years of sharing my life with various four legged souls, this is honestly the one clinic I trust in doing the right thing for my babies and keeping it all within my means. I love these guys!!
